I’m Jillian Sheehan, Program Coordinator for The Inner You Program on Eating Disorders and Self-Esteem. I can honestly say that The Inner You has been the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. It is a place unlike any other. Our goals are to educate people about the realities of eating disorders, to provide support for people suffering from any kind of eating disorder (or self esteem issue), and hopefully prevent the spread of this disease. I have learned so much about eating disorders during my time with this program; things I am sure so many people are ignorant to. It has opened my mind and my heart to what people with an eating disorder go through on a daily basis. I have become so passionate about this subject and I hope through what we do as a program will educate and have the same impact on others.
We have recently coordinated one of our condensed workshops for the ladies at Shortstack, another Windows of Opportunity program, to such great success. I could see the comprehension dawn on the faces of the girls as we told them the real facts about what life with an eating disorder is like, the understanding as we told them the staggeringly high numbers of people living with this problem, and the shock as they realized how insensitive the media and so much of the popoulation are on this topic. I know that we accomplished what we set out to do with this program and I cant wait until The Inner You impacts more youth on an even larger scale. It is inevitable that The Inner You will become a huge success, that it will change the lives of so many people, and that it will change the world. I am so grateful to be able to be a part of something so much larger than any one of us involved, something I will always be proud of.
